How to Make the Voices of Alvin and the Chipmunks and Talk Like Fred

You're probably wondering how they do it... Is it really a voice actor acting? Or is it edited with a computer? Fred is a YouTube phenomenon and here you can do like him!

Well yes, they are modified with the computer.

Here is a step by step tutorial about how to reproduce a chipmunk's voice or Fred's.

  1. Get a song
  2. Download audacity for free here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/ (PC Linux and Mac version available)
  3. Import the song to audacity, you can drag and drop it or go to File, Open…
  4. Click on Edit, Select, All (Ctrl + A)
  5. Click on Effect, Change Pitch…
  6. Now here's the fun part, Select the settings same as the picture below.
  7. Click on OK

And here we go, a Chipmunk song!

To answer derek, you need to use Windows Movie Maker and put the soundtrack in it.

To help shinigami-on-crack You can convert them in to mp3 only if you have a specified .dll file which i forgot the name and which it mentions when you try to export it and which is available for download for free if you Google it.

its works all up until the point where i press "ok" on the change pitch box thing, after that the song disapears or it's there but theres no sound playing, how do i fix this?

Ok, to get it out:
1. export as a WAV (its easier than setting up the mp3 file)
2. Open Win. media player
3. open the "audio converter" tool
4. open the file and select "mp3"
5. hit OK

if you want to export to an mp3 file type u need 2 download the file named lame mp3 encoder on the audacity website

and then wunce youve downloaded it and unzipped it u clik on the icon export selection in the file menu on audacity and choose the mp3 file type

then u need 2 specify where you downloaded lame mp3 encoder and ur dun

How do I edit the music so that only the voice is edited instead of the whole music ? Coz the pitch changed the whole song entirely and it didn't sound nice.

dudes.. it has scratchy sounds.. not good.. i have better settings.. juz change the speed (effects>speed) to +100%.. makes it go x2 faster.. with higher pitch and quality sound.. very good :D

Im really frustrated because none of these websites are answerinb my questions. I have the new version of windows movie maker and whenver i used speed up, double or slow down, half it just makes everything go really really fast.I want it to make the voice slow and deep when its slowed down and high pitch and fast when its sped up.I tried downloading the older version of windows movie maker, but the website told me i shouldnt since i already have the the newer version. you can do the high pitch with with windows sound recorder record what you want and then go to effects and increase speed
