I rushed to the iTunes clip as fast as my connection would take me... Then I double-clicked. Was this the same Usher?
"Love in This Club" is the most generic sounding song I've probably ever heard from this usually superior artist. Everything from the annoying synth/hip-hop backbeat, mindless lyrics, and obligatory (awful) rap interlude, this song is a bit of an embarrassment coming from a modern R&B legend.
Seriously, after such hits as "Yeah!," "Caught Up," "My Boo," "U Remind Me," "Burn," et al, what was he thinking? Well, apparently it worked because this song has effortlessly soared up the charts for the consumption of the apparently musically illiterate masses that bought into such drivel as Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em's "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" and Flo Rida's "Low."
Here's to hoping that the rest of Usher's epically titled Here I Stand are infinitely better than this slice of R&B nonsense.
